Hollywood actress, humanitarian, and founder of the Maddox Foundation, Angelina Jolie, has expressed solidarity with Cambodians who remain displaced one year after the outbreak of conflict along the Cambodia-Thailand border, saying her heart is with those still unable to return home.

In a message shared on her official social media account marking the first anniversary of the conflict, Jolie noted that nearly 30,000 people remain internally displaced and continue to wait for the day they can safely return to their homes.

“One year ago, conflict broke out along Cambodia’s border, upending the safety and stability of so many. Now, nearly 30,000 people remain internally displaced and unable to return home,” she wrote.

Jolie described Cambodia as a country that holds a special place in her life and her family’s, noting that it is the birth country of her son and a place they consider home.

She said that for more than 20 years, she and a fully locally-led team have worked on conservation and community development through the Maddox Foundation, which is headquartered along the same border where the recent conflict took place.

Reflecting on the impact of the fighting, Jolie recalled that the Foundation was forced to evacuate its staff and their families when the conflict erupted last year, describing it as a painful reminder of how quickly conflict can return.

She also spoke of the close friendships she has built with local communities through years of demining efforts and development work in the area.

“I love this country and its resilient, warm people,” Jolie said. “While we’re grateful to have resumed our work protecting the land and supporting the community’s health and livelihoods, my heart is with everyone still waiting to come home.”

Today, July 24, marks the one-year anniversary of the Thai military's armed aggression against Cambodia. In 2025, the Thai military launched two armed offensives against Cambodia's territorial integrity: the first from July 24 to 27 and the second from Dec. 7 to 27.
