Cambodian King Calls for National Unity to Back Royal Government on Border Defense
AKP Phnom Penh, July 01, 2026—-
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday urged his compatriots to remain united as one "grand Khmer family" to support the Royal Government in defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The monarch made the appeal in a royal message delivered on the occasion of the opening of the National Assembly's 6th session of the 7th legislature on July 1, 2026.
"I appeal to all compatriots, both at home and abroad, to continue to unite as one grand Khmer family under the spirit of loyal patriotism," King Sihamoni said in the message.
He called on citizens to "fully trust and support the Royal Government in defending sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolving border issues peacefully based on international law, and further developing Cambodia by continuing state institution reforms and modernization with a people-centered approach."
Furthermore, the King encouraged Cambodian citizens across the country, particularly the youth, to fulfill their military service obligations to contribute to national defense and development.
The monarch also praised lawmakers for directly engaging with citizens to understand their hardships and needs, and for actively promoting national unity.
He lauded their efforts in supporting frontline defense forces and displaced persons along border provinces, noting that parliamentarians have demonstrated a firm commitment to peaceful, law-based responses to any external violations.
"This clearly demonstrates the strength of solidarity as a peace-loving nation that rejects war and respects international law," the King added.
