Funan Techo Water Resources Project Showcases Benefits and Engineering Insights to ITC Students
AKP Phnom Penh, June 25, 2026 -- Representatives from the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterway Co., Ltd. has brought the technical reality of Cambodia’s infrastructure undertaking straight to the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).
The joint lecture was organised on June 25 at the ITC, Phnom Penh, to showcase a detailed roadmap outlining the strategic benefits of Cambodia's megaproject.
The event marked the first in a new series of community engagement with its aims to deeply explore the experience and wisdom accumulated during the project construction process, promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Cambodia, reach out to local communities, support youth development, and enhance public understanding of the project.
Experts presented prepared slides and three-dimensional simulation animations to over 400 faculty members, students from the ITC, and representatives from the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
During the event, General Manager of the project, Mr. Liu Zhaowei told the students that this project is one of Cambodia’s most important infrastructure initiatives.
CRBC will uphold the principles of safety, environmental protection, and civilised construction throughout the process, minimising any impact on local communities' daily lives, he said.
“CRBC will proactively strengthen communication with government authorities, educational institutions, and the public, fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, and work hand in hand with all stakeholders to build this key project that deepens China-Cambodia friendship and enhances people's well-being,” Mr. Liu added.
The project with a length of 172.6 kilometres stretches from the Mekong River's Preak Takeo tributary in southern Kandal province to the sea in southwestern Kep province, traversing Takeo and Kampot provinces.
The construction of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management project has been divided into two sections. Section I, with a length of 21 kilometres, broke ground in August 2024, and Section II, with a length of 151.6 kilometres, launched construction in April 2026.
Once both sections are completed in 2028, the project will be the Kingdom's first inland waterway connecting the Mekong River system to the sea.
Mr. Chang Heanglong, Deputy CEO of Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterway Co., Ltd., stated during the event that the project is a national strategic initiative in Cambodia, jointly invested by Chinese and Cambodian stakeholders, and has received strong attention and support from the Cambodian people.
Through such fruitful and constructive opening lectures, this series of activities will expand the brand influence of Funan Techo Coastal-Inland Waterways Company Limited and CRBC among Cambodian communities and youth groups, encouraging people to support and participate in the project in various forms.
The presentation gave every teacher and student in the room, who had long looked forward to the project—a deeper understanding of how this century-defining endeavour, carrying the centuries-old aspirations of the Khmer nation, is being steadily built and operated by the joint efforts of Chinese and Cambodian builders.
