Cambodia, Indonesia Committed to Deepening Bilateral Relations and Expanding Cooperation

Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed that relations between Cambodia and Indonesia remain strong and continue to deepen across multiple sectors.
The remarks were made during a courtesy meeting with H.E. Henock Puraro, Member of the Senate of the Republic of Indonesia and Third Vice Chair of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh, according to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo welcomed the Indonesian delegation and expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended during his visit to Indonesia in 2025. He noted that Cambodia and Indonesia have maintained close and constructive relations historically and continue to strengthen their partnership.
For his part, H.E. Henock Puraro praised the enduring bilateral ties between the two countries over the past 75 years, describing Cambodia and Indonesia as “brotherly nations.” He said there remains significant potential to further expand cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and education.
The Indonesian senator also explained that his visit aimed in part to discuss the proposed establishment of a Southeast Asian Senate Speakers’ Forum, an initiative previously put forward jointly by Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Indonesia’s Senate leadership.
Responding to the remarks, Samdech Techo expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s continued commitment to bilateral relations and stressed that both countries should continue nurturing their partnership to make it stronger and more substantive.
On economic cooperation, Samdech Techo encouraged both governments to create greater openness and facilitate increased trade and investment flows. He expressed optimism over the steady growth in bilateral trade between Cambodia and Indonesia in recent years.
Samdech Techo also highlighted the importance of strengthening connectivity, noting that direct air links between the two countries have already been established. He called for expanded flight services to further support tourism and promote stronger people-to-people exchanges.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, Samdech Techo shared views on the proposed Southeast Asian Senate Speakers’ Forum, suggesting that further discussions and studies be undertaken to define its future role, scope, and institutional framework within the regional context.
