Ministry of Commerce Officially Launches Cambodia Trade Enterprise
AKP Phnom Penh, June 12, 2026 --
The Ministry of Commerce has officially launched the Cambodia Trade Enterprise (CTE), marking a significant milestone in state-led institutional modernisation aimed at expanding global markets and fostering highly favourable conditions for the Kingdom’s private sector.
The CTE represents a strategic rebranding and transformation of Green Trade, a state enterprise with a three-decade history of serving the nation.
The launching ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Kem Sithan, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, with representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, foreign ambassadors to the Kingdom of Cambodia, development partners, and many private sector representatives.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Permanent Secretary of State recalled and highly valued Green Trade's excellent achievements over the past approximately 30 years in maintaining food security stability and market stability during difficult times such as during COVID-19 and for displaced citizens.
“The establishment of the CTE is a flexible and long-term response, and this establishment is not for the purpose of competing or replacing the role of the private sector, but the CTE will act as a ‘Dynamic Strategic Partner’ to pave the way for new business opportunities, help develop markets, and create favorable conditions for the Cambodian private sector,” he said.
Beside rice, which is a key strategic commodity in the Kingdom, CTE will expand its intervention scope and seek international market opportunities for other potential agricultural products, as well as organic and processed agricultural products, aiming to increase domestic added value and expand exports, he added.
Mr. Lay Chhun Hour, president of the Cambodia Rice Federation, welcomed the initiative, expressing deep optimism, noting that the modernisation of Green Trade into the CTE will provide a vital institutional boost for Cambodian milled rice exports.
“The CTE will bridge the gap between smallholder farmers, traders and buyers, ensuring that the reputation of Cambodian premium rice and other potential agricultural commodities continues to grow,” he said.
On that occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between CTE and various banking institutions and transport companies, which is an important strategic step in facilitating financial and logistics for traders and producers.
