Cambodia to Strengthen Domestic Military Equipment Production Capacity
AKP Phnom Penh, June 11, 2026 --
Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced that Cambodia has set a goal to enhance and invest in the domestic production of equipment and materials that support the national defence sector.
“We must have the capability to produce military equipment to supply our armed forces and law enforcement agencies,” he said during an inspection visit to a military equipment manufacturing facility in Battambang province on Thursday afternoon.
“Cambodia must do this, and Cambodia will no longer allow anyone to look down on or insult our nation. We must strengthen ourselves through our own capabilities,” he stressed.
Regarding reports of China's military assistance to Cambodia, Samdech Techo emphasised that such cooperation should not be viewed as a threat to any country.
He noted that many countries purchase military aircraft and other defence equipment from foreign partners as part of efforts to strengthen their defence capabilities, and that Cambodia's actions are no different. He underlined that Cambodia is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence.
The Acting Head of State reaffirmed that Cambodia does not invade or threaten other nations, and the history has demonstrated this commitment. He added that Cambodia's militants abroad are focused solely on peacekeeping missions rather than warfare.
On border issues, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia remains committed to peaceful solutions based on internationally recognised laws, agreements, and legal documents.
