Acting Head of State Reaffirms Cambodia’s Peaceful Approach to Resolving Border Issues with Thailand
AKP Phnom Penh, June 10, 2026 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has reaffirmed Cambodia’s position on resolving border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, rejecting reports by some Thai media outlets suggesting support for military action.
Speaking during a meeting with members of provincial, city, district, commune, and Sangkat councils, as well as leaders of departments and institutions from Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces, on June 10 in Siem Reap province, Samdech Techo dismissed the inaccurate reporting that misrepresented his remarks regarding Cambodia’s stance on border dispute resolution.
Samdech Techo explained that his earlier remarks had merely presented two options for public consideration: the first, the use of military force to reclaim territory unlawfully occupied by Thailand; and the second, resolving border issues peacefully through international legal mechanisms.
Among the two options, Samdech Techo stressed that Cambodia does not seek the use of military force. Instead, he reiterated that Cambodia’s official position is to pursue a peaceful settlement based on international law and legal mechanisms.
At the same time, Samdech Techo called on Thai media outlets to correct their reporting and present his remarks accurately. He added that he did not believe Thai political leaders would misunderstand or rely solely on such media reports.
Samdech Techo further noted that both Cambodia and Thailand are currently facing challenges caused by misinformation and fake news.
“Sometimes Cambodia receives inaccurate information due to false reporting, and sometimes Thailand may misunderstand because of misinformation as well,” he said.
He underscored the importance of seeking verified and factual information in order to build trust and avoid misunderstandings, warning that confusion and misinterpretation could lead to unnecessary risks.
