Cambodia Sends 136 Ancient Khmer Artifacts to China for 5-Month Exhibition at Shanxi Museum
AKP Phnom Penh, June 09, 2026 --
Cambodia has sent 136 exquisite ancient Khmer artifacts, dating from the prehistoric to the post-Angkorian period, for a five-month exhibition at the Shanxi Museum in China.
According to a statement from Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the artifacts were selected from the collection of the National Museum of Cambodia. The exhibition, titled “Angkor and the Art of Ancient Khmer,” is being held at the Shanxi Museum in Shanxi Province, People’s Republic of China, from June to October 2026.
Authorised by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Under Secretary of State H.E. Ly Vanna led a specialised working team to oversee the installation and inauguration of the exhibition.
The ministry said the display aims to highlight the vibrancy of ancient Khmer art from over a millennium ago and underscores the close cooperation between Cambodia and China in promoting Khmer culture and civilisation to the Chinese public—a people historically connected to Cambodians since ancient times.
The exhibition has drawn significant public interest, drawing large crowds and further inspiring Chinese visitors to explore Cambodia’s ancient temples.
