Educated Youth Are Cambodia’s ‘Strongest Defence Shield,’ Information Minister Says
AKP Phnom Penh, May 29, 2026 --
Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra emphasised Friday that fostering knowledge, discipline, morality, and unity among children is a crucial investment for the future amid ongoing global challenges and uncertainties.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the "2026 Information Ministry Awards for Children’s Music and Song Festival," H.E. Neth Pheaktra stated that educated and virtuous children will serve as the nation’s strongest defence shield.
The festival was held under the theme "Children as Seeds of Peace, Education as a Weapon and National Defence Shield." The Minister highlighted that the theme underscores the role of youth as the core driving force for maintaining Cambodia's peace, stability, and sustainable development.
"Art can be a highly effective medium for social education and message delivery, particularly for the younger generation," H.E. Neth Pheaktra said.
He specifically praised a collaborative performance titled "The Tragedy of Preah Vihear Temple," noting that it successfully educated children on national history while fostering patriotism and a commitment to protecting cultural heritage.
The event, held at the Ministry of Information’s Chaktomuk Mongkul Hall, was attended by Lok Chumteav Tuy Serey Ratanak, Honorary President of the Ministry's branch of the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association, alongside officials, artists, educators, and students.
According to H.E. Mrs. Nong Thuok, Undersecretary of State and Vice Chair of the Festival's Secretariat, the competition began on April 24, drawing 31 groups from 17 primary schools across Phnom Penh and the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap. Each group was required to compose and perform two original songs.
Milky Way Dangkor Primary School (Group 1) clinched the top prize, followed by Milky Way Pursenchey Primary School in second place, and Wat Bo Primary School (Group 2) from Siem Reap in third.
