Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Associations Vow to Deepen Strategic Ties Ahead of 60th Diplomatic Anniversary
AKP Phnom Penh, May 26, 2026 -- The Cambodia-Vietnam and Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Associations have pledged to further elevate their bilateral relations and comprehensive cooperation, placing a sharp focus on youth engagement and countering misinformation.
The commitment was formalised during the 4th Joint Conference for the 2022-2027 term, held Monday in Vung Tau, Vietnam. The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association.
During the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh congratulated Cambodia on its significant socio-economic achievements over the past year. She emphasised that the bilateral relationship remains deeply rooted in close friendship, mutual assistance, and shared strategic experiences aimed at maximising future cooperation.
In response, Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An highlighted the robust momentum in Cambodia-Vietnam relations, noting steady progress across multiple sectors, including: Politics, Diplomacy, Defence, National Security, Trade, Economy, Investment, Tourism, Culture, and Science.
She also expressed deep gratitude for Vietnam’s historical and ongoing support for Cambodia's development.
A key outcome of the conference was a joint agreement to intensify public education regarding the traditional solidarity between the two nations, with a particular focus on the younger generation.
Crucially, both sides vowed to enhance public awareness and vigilance against misinformation and distorted narratives aimed at driving a wedge between the two neighbouring countries.
Looking ahead to the 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2027, both associations agreed to prioritise three core pillars: deepening grassroots cultural ties, fostering youth engagement, and boosting cross-border economic cooperation.
