Mekong-Lancang Caravan Tour Launched to Celebrate Cambodia-China Tourism Year

The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, has launched the Mekong-Lancang Caravan Tour to strengthen tourism cooperation and cultural exchange between Cambodia and China.
The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, on May 18 at the Ministry of Tourism in Phnom Penh, with the participation of delegates from both Cambodia and China.
Speaking at the event, H.E. Huot Hak said the Mekong-Lancang Caravan Tour is one of the 12 major activities organised under the framework of the Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2026.
“By blending the cultures, traditions, and tourism potential of both countries, this Mekong-Lancang Caravan Tour will further enhance the Cambodia-China Tourism Year,” he said.
The 23-day caravan journey began in Phnom Penh on May 18 and will travel through Stung Treng province before crossing into Laos and continuing onward to Yunnan province, China. The convoy is scheduled to return to Phnom Penh via Laos on June 9.
President of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) Ms. Chhay Sivlin described the cross-border caravan tour as an important tourism and cultural mission reflecting the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and regional cooperation.
“This tour will contribute to implementing the Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2026 and demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting cultural exchange, tourism cooperation, and economic connectivity among Cambodia, Laos, and China,” she said.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed more than one million international tourists in the first quarter of 2026, including approximately 240,000 Chinese visitors.
