Cambodia took centre stage at the 30th Seoul Friendship Festival last weekend, using the high-profile event to spotlight its export-ready industries and rich cultural traditions.

The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Seoul, led by Ambassador H.E. Khuon Phon Rattanak and his spouse Mao Noreneath, ran a vibrant two-day pavilion at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from May 9-10.

Organised by the Seoul Metropolitan Government under the theme “30 Years with the World, Bridging Cultures Together,” the festival is South Korea’s largest annual cultural exchange gathering. This year’s edition featured 73 embassies and international organisations.

According to the embassy, at the Cambodian pavilion, visitors explored a curated selection of potential export products alongside traditional Khmer desserts. Interactive attractions – including traditional costume fittings and multimedia tours of Cambodia’s top destinations – drew steady crowds.

The cultural highlight came from live stage performances: the graceful “Neary Chea Chuor” dance, the visually stunning Peacock Dance, and an electrifying display of Bokator, the ancient Cambodian martial art. The acts earned strong praise from Seoul residents and international visitors alike, who hailed the unique artistry and energy of Cambodia’s heritage.
