Samdech Techo Urges Local Salt Producers to Pay Attention to Stable Supply and Public Health
AKP Phnom Penh, May 09, 2026 -- Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has urged all salt producers in Cambodia to ensure stable supply and take responsibility for public health by promoting the production of iodized salt to help reduce iodine deficiency disorders and improve consumers’ well-being.
The remarks were made during a meeting with provincial, municipal, district, commune, and Sangkat council members, as well as leaders of departments and units from Kampot and Kep provinces, attended by 1,182 officials on May 9, at Kampot Provincial Hall.
Samdech Techo noted that Kampot and Kep provinces hold a unique role in Cambodia as the country’s key salt-producing areas, supplying salt nationwide. He encouraged provincial authorities to continue raising awareness among salt producers about maintaining product quality and safeguarding public health.
At the same time, Samdech Techo praised civil servants in Kampot and Kep for their efforts in delivering public services and maintaining social order and security. He also reminded officials at all levels, especially commune and Sangkat councils, to continue serving the people with integrity and to provide public services more efficiently and promptly.
Samdech Techo further called on authorities to accelerate the issuance of land titles to citizens in order to reduce disputes and dissatisfaction at the grassroots level. He also urged continued attention and support for frontline soldiers’ families, disabled veterans, fallen soldiers’ families, and former veterans through regular visits and educational and vocational support for their children.
In addition, Samdech Techo appealed to local authorities to work together to protect natural resources and prevent environmental destruction. He reiterated that “officials are not masters of the people, but loyal servants of the people,” while also encouraging stronger border cooperation with Vietnam to facilitate closer people-to-people relations between the two countries.
According to Kep Provincial Governor H.E. Som Piseth, Kep has a long development history, with residents mainly engaged in agriculture, fishing, salt production, and tourism.
Meanwhile, Kampot Provincial Governor H.E. Mao Thonin highlighted Kampot’s strong potential in agriculture, commerce, industry, and tourism, noting that the province is home to major ports, cement factories, and hydropower plants that contribute significantly to regional economic growth.
