Cambodia Seeks to Build Lasting Peace with Thailand for Both People’s Well-Being
AKP Phnom Penh, May 09, 2026 -- Cambodia continues to uphold its position of resolving the Cambodia-Thailand dispute peacefully, based on international law and existing agreements.
The commitment was reaffirmed by H.E. Tan Jean-François, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at a press conference at Techo International Airport last night upon the return of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and the First Lady from the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in Cebu, the Philippines.
He stressed that Samdech Thipadei wishes to build, together with Thai Prime Minister Anutin, a lasting peace that will allow the Cambodian and Thai peoples to continue living side by side in harmony and prosperity.
H.E. Tan Jean-François added that Samdech Thipadei had expressed deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and former ASEAN Chair, as well as to H.E. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Philippines and current ASEAN Chair, for their efforts in facilitating a peaceful resolution to the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute.
Samdech Thipadei also extended thanks to all ASEAN member states, particularly the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), for continuing to monitor and support the implementation of the ceasefire along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
It should be recalled that during a joint press conference on the outcomes of the trilateral meeting among the Philippines, Cambodia, and Thailand in Cebu on the evening of May 7, 2026, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that Cambodia remains firmly committed to the peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law and existing agreements, including the commitments reaffirmed in the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of Oct. 26, 2025, and the Joint Statement of Dec. 27, 2025.
Cambodia, he stressed, stands ready to move forward constructively, swiftly, and in good faith.
