UNEP Pledges to Expand Environment Cooperation with Cambodia

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Cambodia in promoting natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and pollution prevention for environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change.
The commitment was made by Ms. Dechen Tsering, UNEP Regional Director and Representative for Asia and the Pacific, during a courtesy call and working discussion with H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, at the Ministry’s office in Phnom Penh on May 6.
In the meeting, Ms. Dechen Tsering highly commended the Ministry of Environment for its excellent cooperation in the environmental and natural resource sectors, especially for implementing activities to promote plastic reduction, environmental pollution management, protection and conservation of natural resources and wildlife, and climate change adaptation.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth spoke highly of UNEP's support for expanding cooperation with the Ministry of Environment in air quality and chemical management, biodiversity conservation, and action plans to strengthen climate change resilience in Cambodia.
He stated that the Ministry of Environment has launched many measures and campaigns to promote cleanliness and prevent environmental pollution in the water, on the land, and in the air to increase climate change resilience for nature-protected area communities in Cambodia.
