Cambodia to Ban Promotional Prize Schemes on Beer and Beverage Products
AKP Phnom Penh, May 06, 2026 --
The Ministry of Economy and Finance has issued new measures to regulate the domestic production of beer and non-alcoholic beverages, aiming to strengthen market fairness and compliance across the sector.
In a recent official directive addressed to the General Department of Taxation, the Ministry outlined the Royal Government’s decision to prohibit promotional prize schemes linked to beverage products, including giveaways through can tabs, bottle caps, or other formats.
Under the new policy, all prize-based promotions for sugary drinks – particularly energy drinks – must cease by the end of the third quarter of 2026. Starting from Oct. 1, 2026, companies will no longer be allowed to offer such promotions or produce, import, or order beverage packaging that includes prize incentives.
The same restrictions will apply to alcoholic products, including beer. All forms of promotional rewards tied to product packaging must also end by the third quarter deadline, with a complete ban on related packaging production, importation, and new orders taking effect from October.
The measures are intended to ensure fair competition within the beverage industry while reinforcing regulatory compliance. The Ministry has instructed the General Department of Taxation to implement the directive effectively in line with the government’s policy.
