AKP Phnom Penh, May 04, 2026 -- The 10th Cambodia Festival concluded successfully in Tokyo, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and highlighting the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Japan.
Held on May 3-4 at Yoyogi Park Event Square, the annual event has grown into the largest Cambodian cultural festival in Japan, serving as a vibrant platform for promoting mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connectivity.
The opening ceremony was graced by H.E. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. FUJII Hisayuki, Member of the House of Representatives and Secretary-General of the Japan-Cambodia Friendship Parliamentary League, along with ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the private sector.
In their remarks, the Japanese dignitaries highlighted the enduring partnership between the two countries and emphasised the importance of cultural exchange and continued cooperation across economic and development sectors.
H.E. CHUM Sounry, Ambassador-Designate of Cambodia to Japan, described the festival as a symbol of lasting friendship and close cooperation, noting its role over the past decade in strengthening bilateral relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.
He also underscored the festival’s contribution to Cambodia’s economic diplomacy by promoting trade, investment, and tourism opportunities, while deepening engagement with Japan.
The two-day event featured a wide range of cultural performances, including traditional Khmer dances and contemporary shows by Cambodian and Japanese artists. More than 90 booths showcased Cambodian cuisine, handicrafts, local products, tourism information, and investment opportunities.
A key highlight was the promotion of Cambodia’s cultural heritage, particularly the “Krama,” recently inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Beyond cultural celebration, the festival also served as a platform for strengthening collaboration among the Cambodian community in Japan, Japanese partners, and international stakeholders.
The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan expressed appreciation to organisers, sponsors, artists, and participants, as well as to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support and friendship.
The Cambodia Festival continues to stand as a symbol of the enduring relationship between the two nations and a bridge connecting their peoples.
