Cambodia Lauds Malaysia’s “Active Role” in Mediating ASEAN Stability During 2025 Chairmanship

Cambodia’s Acting Senate President H.E. Ouch Borith has expressed high appreciation for Malaysia’s proactive leadership during its 2025 ASEAN chairmanship, crediting the country with easing regional tensions and advancing peace processes.
The remarks were made during a meeting Tuesday with Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Datuk Shaharuddin Onn. According to a statement from the Senate, the discussions focused on deepening bilateral ties and preparing for the upcoming official visit of Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, the First Deputy President of the Malaysian Senate.
H.E. Borith specifically highlighted Kuala Lumpur’s "active role" in regional mediation throughout the past year, noting that Malaysia’s diplomatic efforts were instrumental in fostering stability within the Southeast Asian bloc.
Beyond regional security, the two officials explored expanded cooperation in several key sectors, including: Strengthening ties between the two legislative bodies; Enhancing trade and investment frameworks; Boosting partnerships in education, labour, healthcare, and the burgeoning Halal industry.
H.E. Borith reaffirmed the Cambodian Senate's readiness to facilitate the upcoming high-level visit from the Malaysian Senate leadership, emphasising a shared commitment to making the inter-parliamentary relationship more "efficient and close-knit" to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
