His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, underwent medical surgery on the morning of April 20 at a hospital in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of the Royal Palace.

The statement said His Majesty had safely left the operating room later the same day and remains under the close care and supervision of the medical team at the Beijing hospital.

Doctors have advised the King to remain in Beijing for a further period following the operation in order to continue monitoring his recovery and to provide additional medical care.

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk expressed profound gratitude to senior Buddhist leaders, national leaders, officials at all levels, and the Cambodian people for their blessings, prayers, and wishes for the King’s speedy recovery.
