Cambodia, Türkiye to Deepen Legislative Ties as Outgoing Envoy Hails "Model" Leadership
AKP Phnom Penh, April 07, 2026 --
Cambodia and Türkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening parliamentary cooperation to better serve the interests of their citizens, according to senior officials following a high-level diplomatic meeting on Tuesday.
Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, received H.E. Ülkü Kocaefe, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, for a farewell call at the National Assembly Palace.
During the meeting, the National Assembly President lauded the Ambassador’s successful tenure, noting that her efforts significantly bolstered ties between the two nations' legislative and executive branches. The President remarked on the swift passage of time, recalling their initial meeting shortly after her election to the leadership of the 7th legislature.
The spokesperson for the National Assembly President, H.E. Dr. Keo Piseth, told reporters that the discussions centred on the "mutual trust and respect" that define the bilateral relationship. Both sides credited the current strength of diplomacy to high-level engagement, specifically citing former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen’s 2019 visit to Türkiye and the continued momentum under current Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
The National Assembly President emphasised the shared values between Phnom Penh and Ankara, stating: "Cambodia and Türkiye share a commitment to peace, prosperity, and multilateralism based on international law. In a complex global climate marked by conflict, it is essential that we continue to work together to uphold these principles."
Ambassador Kocaefe expressed her gratitude for the support received during her mission, describing the National Assembly President as an inspiring role model for Cambodian women and the general public. She assured that her successor would continue to prioritise bilateral relations, with a specific focus on parliamentary friendship groups and cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN.
The Cambodian leadership expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s ongoing support in trade, investment, education, and healthcare. The President specifically requested further assistance in human resource development, a key pillar in Cambodia’s strategic goal to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2050.
