Minister Cham Nimul Highlights Cambodia’s FDI Success at Global WTO Event
AKP Phnom Penh, March 26, 2026 --
Cambodian Minister of Commerce H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul has highlighted the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) for Cambodia’s economic development over the past two decades.
She made the remarks while participating as a speaker in the Multi-Stakeholder Ministerial Event on “Scaling Up Investment Facilitation to Mobilise Investment,” held on Mar. 25, in Yaoundé city, Cameroon.
This Ministerial-level event was attended by WTO Members, both beneficiary and donor members, as well as partner international organisations, multilateral and regional development and investment banks, and other key stakeholders.
In the High-level Panel titled “The IFDA as a Catalyst for Investment Facilitation Reforms and Investment Mobilisation,” H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul emphasised the importance of FDI for Cambodia’s economic development over the past two decades.
She also highlighted challenges faced by LDCs in attracting global investment flows and called for strengthened investment facilitation, as well as the creation of a more predictable, transparent, efficient investment environment and re-globalisation.
Over the past two decades, Cambodia has experienced a dramatic surge in FDI, transforming from a post-conflict economy into an investment-friendly destination.
The FDI flew to main sector such as manufacturing, construction, real estate, and finance. China has been the dominant investor, accounting for nearly half of all inflows.
