MAFF Signs MoU with International Conservation Partners to Strengthen Ecosystem Protection
AKP Phnom Penh, March 23, 2026 --
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with international conservation organisations to strengthen fisheries and ecosystem management in Cambodia.
The agreement was signed on March 23 at the MAFF between the Ministry and its partners – a Conservation International (CI), Wild Earth Allies (WEA), and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) – under the witness of H.E. Sar Chetra, Secretary General of MAFF.
The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in managing fisheries resources, protecting ecosystems, and promoting sustainable livelihoods for local communities across key areas, including marine zones, Tonle Sap Lake, the Mekong River, and inland regions.
H.E. Sar Chetra said the partnership will contribute to biodiversity conservation, improved fisheries management, and greater climate resilience, while strengthening governance and supporting community livelihoods. The collaboration also seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices and conserve Cambodia’s wildlife, as well as marine and freshwater species.
He reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment to safeguarding fisheries resources and ecosystems, while advancing sustainable livelihoods through enhanced cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
