River Festival 2026 to Feature Diverse Line-up of Accompanying Events
AKP Phnom Penh, March 20, 2026 --
A series of seven major accompanying events will be organised as part of the 10th River Festival 2026, scheduled to take place in Kratie province from Mar. 27 to 29 under the theme “Green Rivers, Cultural Heritage, and Rich Natural Resources.”
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the festival will feature a wide range of activities aimed at promoting culture, tourism, and environmental awareness, including:
A Buddhist almsgiving ceremony dedicated to Khmer ancestors, fallen soldiers, and all armed forces who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
A traditional Kralan (bamboo sticky rice) cooking event to honour the armed forces and express solidarity with displaced citizens.
A fish release ceremony to support biodiversity conservation and pray for peace and well-being.
Cultural performances and live concerts showcasing local traditions, customs, and tourism potential.
Exhibitions and trade fairs, including displays of tourism achievements, food and beverages, agro-tourism products, local goods, and development projects in Kratie province.
Mass-participation sports and tourism activities.
A floating lantern (lighted boat) ceremony, along with various entertainment programmes.
Organised annually on a rotational basis among riparian provinces, the River Festival aims to raise public awareness and promote active participation in the sustainable development and conservation of river resources.
The first River Festival was held in Kratie province in 2015, followed by events in Stung Treng, Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum, Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Battambang, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and Takeo.
