Cambodian Minister Explores Digital Cooperation with Japanese Firms
AKP Phnom Penh, March 17, 2026 -- Cambodian Minister of Posts and Telecommunications H.E. Chea Vandeth led a delegation on a working visit to Japan, where he held talks with leading Japanese companies on advancing digital infrastructure development, according to an official statement released Tuesday.
During his stay in Tokyo from Mar. 15 to 16, the Minister and his delegation visited the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to study the development and application of space technologies, particularly satellite systems, as a key component of modern telecommunications and digital innovation.
The Cambodian delegation also held separate meetings with three Japanese firms — Nippon Koei, Magna Wireless, and NextMake — focusing on potential areas of cooperation.
Discussions with Nippon Koei centred on its role in developing a master plan for Cambodia’s Digital Park project under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. The company has maintained longstanding ties with Cambodia and was awarded a royal medal in 1958 for its contributions to the country’s waterway and railway development.
Talks with Magna Wireless explored the possibility of establishing operations in Cambodia’s Digital Park.
The company specialises in telecommunications equipment, including low-latency fifth-generation (5G) mobile technology, semiconductors and chip production.
Meanwhile, discussions with NextMake focused on preparations to dispatch the first cohort of Cambodian digital students with Japanese language proficiency to work in Japan under the IT Pathway programme supported by the ministry.
The Ministry noted that the visit forms part of broader efforts to deepen Cambodia-Japan digital cooperation, including collaboration in space technology, investment in telecommunications infrastructure, and the development of digital human resources.
