Mine-Clearing Robots Arrive in Cambodia to Boost Demining Efforts
AKP Phnom Penh, March 10, 2026 --
Four advanced mine-clearing robots, developed through a collaboration between the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and Japan’s IOS Co., Ltd., have arrived in Cambodia, marking a significant technological upgrade in the Kingdom's long-running campaign to rid itself of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The remotely operated machines are expected to play a crucial role in ongoing clearance operations, enhancing the safety and efficiency of detecting and disposing of deadly remnants of war that continue to pose a risk to rural communities.
Authorities will deploy robots to high-priority frontline areas to accelerate the reclamation of contaminated land. This initiative supports the Royal Government’s mission to ensure civilian safety and unlock territory for socio-economic development in regions impacted by previous Thai incursions.
H.E. Heng Ratana, Director-General of CMAC, confirmed the arrival of the equipment in a social media post on Tuesday, stating the robots would be operationalised in the near future.
