Cambodia Distributes Saudi Royal Iftar Meals to Muslims for Holy Month of Ramadan
AKP Phnom Penh, February 19, 2026 -- Cambodia has begun distributing hundreds of food packages to its Muslim minority as part of a humanitarian initiative funded by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the holy month of Ramadan.
Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions H.E. Dr. Othsman Hassan presided over a ceremony in the Baray district, Kampong Thom province, on Wednesday to hand out 500 Iftar meal kits. The aid is part of a broader charitable programme coordinated by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Speaking at the event, H.E. Othsman Dr. Hassan characterised the distribution as a symbol of the "spirit of charity and sharing" intended to alleviate economic hardships during the month of fasting. He noted that the initiative highlights the deepening diplomatic and humanitarian ties between Phnom Penh and Riyadh.
H.E. Dr. Hassan also used the occasion to reinforce the Royal Government’s stance on religious pluralism. He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet—and his predecessor, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen—Cambodia’s Muslim adherents have been guaranteed the freedom to practice their faith without discrimination.
"The Royal Government continues to value the rights of all religious groups, ensuring a landscape of harmonious coexistence," he said.
The Senior Minister concluded by urging the community to observe the fast with "patience and solidarity," echoing the core tenets of the sacred month.
