Australia Bolsters Climate-Smart Agriculture in Cambodia's Kratie Province
AKP Phnom Penh, February 19, 2026 --
Australia is spearheading a technical initiative to implement climate-smart agricultural practices in Cambodia's Kratie province to mitigate the severe impacts of climate change on local food security and rural livelihoods, World Vision officials said Wednesday.
Rapidly shifting weather patterns have emerged as a significant threat to Cambodia’s agricultural sector, jeopardising the incomes of smallholder farmers. In response, Australia is partnering with local farming communities to introduce resilient cultivation techniques designed to withstand environmental volatility.
World Vision International (Cambodia) recently convened with key stakeholders to finalise the "Building Climate-Adaptive Solutions through Inclusive Market Networks" (BASIN) project. This new initiative specifically targets cashew nut producers and green vegetable growers in the Prek Prasap, Sambo, and Snuol districts.
"We are committed to working alongside these communities to reduce their vulnerability to climate change while simultaneously driving sustainable economic growth," a World Vision representative stated.
The BASIN project aims to establish inclusive market links, ensuring that farmers in the eastern province not only adapt to a changing climate but also remain competitive in the regional marketplace.
