AKP Phnom Penh, February 07, 2026 --
Cambodia and the United States have committed to strengthening bilateral cultural cooperation, focusing on heritage preservation and the ongoing repatriation of looted artifacts.
H.E. Dr. Phoeurng Sackona, Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, met with Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, on Friday to discuss expanding the cultural partnership between the two nations.
During the meeting, Minister Sackona highlighted the critical role of U.S. support in safeguarding Cambodia’s cultural legacy. She expressed "deep gratitude" for Washington’s technical and financial assistance, particularly in preventing the illicit trafficking of antiquities and securing the return of lost Khmer treasures to their homeland.
“Beyond heritage conservation, the collaboration supports professional training and joint exhibitions featuring the full spectrum of Khmer traditional and contemporary arts."
Both parties agreed to further intensify their cultural cooperation, ensuring the continued protection and global promotion of Cambodia’s rich historical identity.
