Thai Troops Place New Containers in Pursat Province
AKP Phnom Penh, February 07, 2026 --
Cambodian authorities have accused Thai troops of seriously violating Cambodia’s sovereignty after allegedly placing new container structures across National Road 55 in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
According to local authorities, the containers were installed on the morning of Feb. 7, following earlier placement of barbed wire in the same area. Cambodian officials said the actions effectively blocked the road and encroached on Cambodian territory, describing the move as a breach of existing agreements, joint statements, and international law.
The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has issued repeated diplomatic protests, strongly rejecting what it describes as aggressive actions by Thai military forces. Cambodia has reaffirmed its firm position on fully respecting ceasefire arrangements, bilateral agreements, and joint declarations, while stressing that it does not recognise any unilateral alteration of the border through the use of force.
Despite the ceasefire agreement of Dec. 27, 2025, Thai forces had continued to encroach on Cambodian territory by placing containers and barbed wire in many locations, blocking access of tens of thousands of Cambodian displaced people to their respective homes.
