UNICEF and Cambodia Deliver Urgent Hygiene Aid to 1,200 Displaced Families
AKP Phnom Penh, February 06, 2026 --
UNICEF, in partnership with Cambodia’s Ministry of Rural Development, distributed essential hygiene supplies on Friday to 1,244 families currently living in temporary shelters in the O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
The humanitarian response targets displaced residents from the villages of Chouk Chey and Prey Chan, who are currently seeking refuge at the Chan Sy Samaky Ratanaram pagoda in Kob commune.
These families remain unable to return to their homes as the Thai military has placed containers and barbed wire to block their access to their homes.
Local officials, led by Ms. Keo Pichta, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Rural Development, handed over the aid package to district authorities. The supplies are intended to mitigate the risk of disease outbreaks and ensure basic sanitary standards for those living in cramped, temporary conditions.
"This assistance is a vital humanitarian gesture to alleviate the hardships faced by our citizens and ensure they have the means to maintain personal hygiene and prevent illness while displaced," a provincial official said during the handover ceremony.
Local administration leaders expressed deep gratitude to UNICEF and the Ministry of Rural Development for the timely intervention as the humanitarian situation in the province remains critical.
