Cambodia, Vietnam Optimistic with Set Goal of US$20 Billion in Bilateral Trade

Leaders of the ruling parties of Cambodia and Vietnam have expressed confidence that the set target of expanding bilateral trade to reach US$20 billion in the coming years could be achieved within two to three years.
The optimism was shared during a bilateral summit at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh on Feb. 6 between Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
According to CPP Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith, both leaders encouraged their respective governments to further promote trade expansion, noting the strong economic potential and complementary strengths of the two countries.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed General Secretary To Lam and his high-level delegation, highlighting the steady progress of Cambodia-Vietnam relations across party, government, and legislative channels. He also shared views on regional and global developments.
General Secretary To Lam thanked Cambodia for the warm hospitality and reaffirmed Vietnam’s firm commitment to strengthening ties with Cambodia. He praised the close cooperation between the two countries, particularly in maintaining peace, stability, and security along the shared border.
Both sides agreed to further enhance border cooperation to prevent crime, maintain long-term stability, and promote economic and trade growth for the mutual benefit of their peoples. They also agreed to expand cooperation in human resource development, experience-sharing, and youth engagement between the two ruling parties.
Following their bilateral summit, both party top leaders witnessed the signing ceremony and exchange of notes covering cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia and Vietnam, the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religions and the Vietnamese Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, and provinces along the Cambodia-Vietnam border.
