Cambodia Denies Thai Media Report on Alleged Border Attack

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence has firmly rejected reports by several Thai media outlets alleging that a 40mm explosive round was fired near a Thai military base along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, dismissed the reports as entirely false and fabricated, warning that such misinformation could mislead public opinion and heighten tensions along the border.
The Thai media reports claimed that Thailand’s Second Army Region had detected a 40mm explosive shell landing near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base. Cambodian defence authorities categorically denied the allegation.
According to information from Cambodia’s Military Region 4 under the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, liaison teams from Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Second Army Region have already communicated and verified the situation, confirming that no such incident occurred.
The Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed Cambodia’s strong commitment to fully respecting and implementing the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held on Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on Peace Deal signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and other related agreements.
The Ministry emphasizsd its continued opposition to misinformation and reiterated its dedication to restoring peace, stability, and long-term security along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The public and media outlets were urged to refrain from sharing unverified or false information and to rely only on official, credible sources, particularly statements from the Royal Government of Cambodia and relevant ministries and authorities.
