Cambodia and Vietnam Bolster Media Cooperation to Accelerate Digital Transition
AKP Phnom Penh, February 05, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Information and the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) have moved to deepen their bilateral cooperation, focusing on a comprehensive digital overhaul of Cambodia’s national broadcasting infrastructure.
The agreement aims to modernise the National Television of Cambodia (TVK) and the National Radio of Cambodia (RNK), transitioning their operations from aging analog systems to digital platforms. The initiative aligns with Cambodia’s broader strategic shift toward enhancing its radio, television, and online media presence to meet modern digital standards.
The partnership was solidified during a high-level meeting on Wednesday afternoon between Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra and a VOV delegation led by Vice President Vu Hai Quang.
H.E. Minister expressed high appreciation for the long-standing collaboration with VOV, citing the tangible impact of Vietnamese technical support.
"The Government of Vietnam, through VOV, has provided essential FM radio transmitters and deployed technical experts to assist with installations in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and various provinces, ensuring seamless national broadcasting," he said.
Furthering this support, VOV has delivered specialised mobile broadcasting vehicles for TVK and RNK. These units are slated for immediate deployment to provide live coverage of the upcoming state visit of H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Beyond hardware, the Ministry of Information is seeking Vietnam’s continued assistance in human resource development. Key requests include: Enhancing the skills of officials in radio, television, and digital media management; Facilitating professional experience sharing between the two nations’ media sectors; Developing a unified network of provincial and municipal information departments.
Minister Pheaktra noted that "network radio" is already operational in five provinces. Under the new modernisation plan, provincial stations will be required to synchronise their news broadcasts with national stations to ensure the public receives verified, accurate information from official government sources.
In reply, VOV Vice President Vu Hai Quang reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to the partnership, describing the relationship as "close and highly effective." He emphasised that VOV stands ready to exchange technical expertise to help Cambodia navigate the rapid evolution of the modern media landscape.
The delegation expressed confidence that the strengthened ties between the Ministry of Information and VOV would serve as a cornerstone for the broader diplomatic and strategic relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
