AKP Phnom Penh, January 30, 2026 -- H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Staung district, Kampong Thom province, underscored the Royal Government’s commitment to public health today as he led an international medical team to provide specialised ear treatments with free of charge to local residents.

The two-day humanitarian mission, which began Friday at the Cambodian People’s Party headquarters in Staung district, aims to treat approximately 3,000 patients. The initiative features a multinational team of specialists providing diagnostic check-ups and distributing hearing aids to those in need.

"Leading this medical team to treat hearing impairments reflects our high level of concern for public health and the well-being of our local community," Minister Thor Chetha stated during the opening of the event.

The Minister expressed surprise at the high number of residents suffering from hearing loss in the area. He voiced optimism that the clinical interventions and the provision of assistive devices would significantly restore the quality of life and auditory health for the beneficiaries.

Addressing the patients, H.E. Thor Chetha urged the public to prioritise ear hygiene and seek professional medical advice immediately when symptoms arise. He also emphasised the importance of post-treatment compliance.

"I encourage everyone to follow medical prescriptions strictly and to exercise patience when adapting to new hearing aids," he said. "While there may be a minor adjustment period, these devices are essential for better communication and daily functioning."

The Minister extended his deep gratitude to the diverse team of international doctors and local coordinators for their dedication to the mission.

The outreach programme is scheduled to conclude on Jan. 31, 2026, after completing its target of assisting thousands of citizens within the district.
