Information Ministry to Launch 2026 Children’s Music Festival Promoting Peace and Patriotism
AKP Phnom Penh, January 27, 2026 --
Cambodian Ministry of Information is set to host the "2026 Information Ministry Awards for Children’s Music and Song Festival" in late April, aimed at fostering education and creative expression through the arts.
Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra presided over the inaugural committee meeting on Tuesday to outline the framework for the event. The festival serves a dual purpose: celebrating the 77th International Children's Day and the 25th World Day Against Child Labour, while providing a platform for young talent to showcase original works that reflect Cambodian social values.
Marking the third consecutive year since the festival's revival, the 2026 edition introduces themes centred on patriotism, national unity, and the value of peace.
"This year, we are encouraging compositions that express gratitude to our armed forces and highlight the plight of children in conflict zones," Minister Pheaktra stated.
"It is vital to emphasise that children need peace, family stability, and the opportunity to attend school rather than the hardships of war and displacement."
The ministry has issued a call for entries, seeking entirely original lyrics and melodies.
The competition is structured as follows: Groups of five students aged 8 to 13; Each group must compose two original songs; Submissions must focus on moral education, virtue, respect for elders, environmental preservation, and social responsibility—including traffic law compliance and drug awareness.
The Ministry of Information is urging parents, guardians, and educators from both public and private institutions to encourage children to participate. The initiative is designed not only to discover artistic talent but to instill a sense of civic duty and "gentle education" through the medium of music.
