ABC Provides Financial Assistance to Support Displaced Education Personnel and Students
AKP Phnom Penh, January 23, 2026 -- Mr. Rath Sophoan, Chairman of the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC), together with Members of the Council and the ABA Secretariat, delivered on Jan. 22 financial assistance amounting to KHR 150 million (about US$37,500) to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
The assistance was provided to support education personnel, including teachers and displaced students, during the period of armed aggression by Thailand affecting provinces along the Cambodian-Thai border.
H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, welcomed the ABC delegation and accepted the financial assistance.
On this occasion, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister expressed sincere appreciation to all charitable people who have supported the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
He further noted that the funds would be used to assist displaced teachers and students, as well as to repair school buildings damaged as a result of the aggression.
Mr. Rath Sophoan emphasised that this contribution, raised from ABC member institutions, reflects the collective commitment of the banking sector to support the Ministry’s mission in assisting education personnel, teachers, and displaced students affected by the armed conflict.
This is in addition to the support and relief that banks have provided to the frontline soldiers and displaced people in line with NBC’s circular.
In early January 2026, ABC also provided humanitarian assistance, including food supplies, essential materials, and financial support, to heroic armed forces and displaced persons in Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Siem Reap provinces.
