WFC Targets Olympic Medals in Wrestling at 2036 Games
AKP Phnom Penh, January 22, 2026 --
The Wrestling Federation of Cambodia (WFC) has set an ambitious goal of winning Olympic medals in wrestling at the 2036 Olympic Games, which are scheduled to be hosted by India.
Mr. Casey Barnett, Vice President of the WFC, said on Jan. 20 that the federation will further promote the sport’s potential and expand wrestling programmes to several provinces across Cambodia starting in 2026.
As part of this commitment, he said, the federation plans to establish large, standard training and competition halls in Phnom Penh as well as in the provinces of Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, and Kandal.
Within these facilities, WFC will deploy coaches to train talented young Cambodians aged between 10 and 12, aiming to strengthen their skills and prepare them for regional and international competitions, the WFC vice president added.
According to Mr. Barnett, beginning in 2026 Cambodia will also strengthen collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia to seek support from U.S. companies investing in the country. This support will focus on developing Cambodian athletes’ potential through assistance in training, nutrition, sportswear, and equipment, as part of preparations toward the 2028 Olympic Games in the United States.
