First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony Inaugurates New Facilities for Special Education in Takhmao
AKP Phnom Penh, January 20, 2026 -- Cambodia’s First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet on Tuesday inaugurated a major expansion of the Takhmao Special Education High School, marking a significant step in the Royal Government’s efforts to improve support for children with autism.
The new development consists of two three-story buildings housing 36 classrooms. The facilities are designed to enhance the learning environment for more than 300 students with autism currently enrolled at the institution.
Beyond traditional schooling, the centre provides specialised therapy aimed at improving the health, communication skills, and social integration of its students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony praised the dedication of the school’s faculty and management.
She emphasised that educating children with autism requires exceptional patience and specialised expertise, noting that the teachers’ commitment is vital to transforming these students into valuable human resources for the nation.
"The education and care of children with neurological developmental conditions is a unique challenge," the First Lady said, acknowledging the physical and mental effort required by staff to support students who face significant communication and intellectual hurdles.
The expansion comes as the Royal Government of Cambodia, under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, ramps up investment in inclusive education. Officials stated that the Royal Government is committed to providing the necessary infrastructure, specialised equipment, and technical training to ensure that children with special needs receive the same opportunities for growth as their peers.
