AKP Phnom Penh, January 19, 2026 — Cambodia’s state-run news agency, Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), has seen a significant surge in audience trust and digital engagement, reaching a record 3.7 million website views as it pivots toward AI integration and expanded foreign language services.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s annual review on Monday, AKP Director-General H.E. Mrs. Sokmom Nimul detailed the agency's evolution in 2025, highlighting an increase in multi-platform content production including text, photography, and video.

"The Agence Kampuchea Presse has undergone a qualitative transformation, successfully building deeper trust among our readers, listeners, and viewers," she said, noting that both domestic and international organisations are increasingly citing AKP as a primary, professional source for verified news.

As part of its 2026 strategic roadmap, the agency plans to address human resource shortages caused by a wave of staff retirements by investing heavily in modern technology.

Key initiatives for the coming year include:

Training staff to need skills, including Artificial Intelligence to streamline news production and offset workforce gaps.

Specialised workshops focusing on investigative reporting, in-depth analysis, and editorial commentary.

The launch of a Chinese-language service to complement existing offerings and cater to a broader international demographic.

The Director-General emphasised AKP’s proactive role in the regional fight against "fake news," stating the agency has ramped up its rapid-response capabilities across social media platforms to maintain information integrity.

Despite the transition toward digital-first journalism, the Director-General affirmed that AKP would maintain a "hybrid" approach, strengthening traditional media outputs while moderniding its web infrastructure to improve user experience.

The agency also intends to deepen its cooperation with international news partners to elevate Cambodia's profile in the global information landscape.
