AKP Phnom Penh, January 13, 2026 -- H.E. Chan Ratana, Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Tuesday emphasised the continued efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia and its diplomatic corps to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Cambodia’s national interests through diplomatic means.

Responding to journalists’ questions, H.E. Chan Ratana stated that following the entry into force of the ceasefire on Dec. 27, 2025, the Royal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has continued its tireless diplomatic efforts to protect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its national interests, in accordance with the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and international humanitarian law. He underlined in particular the principles of non-use or threat of force in resolving disputes and border issues, with strong attention to the protection of civilians’ right to life.

The Acting Spokesperson stressed that the Ministry and Cambodia’s diplomatic missions worldwide have been actively urging the international community to provide support and intervention to ensure that all displaced Cambodian citizens can safely, freely, and dignifiedly return to their homes and resume their daily lives without obstruction.

At the same time, Cambodia has continued to call on Thailand to cease military activities, including the demolition of civilian homes and infrastructure, obstruction of Cambodian civilians from returning to their residences, and the implementation of measures to reinforce unlawful military presence in Cambodian villages seized by force. He urged Thailand to instead cooperate in accelerating the work of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission to demarcate the border between the two countries based on previously agreed legal frameworks.

H.E. Chan Ratana further noted that the Ministry has been pursuing diplomatic engagement through bilateral channels with Thailand, while maintaining communication at all levels with friendly countries committed to restoring peace and stability between Cambodia and Thailand and globally.

At the regional level, Cambodia will continue to work closely with the Philippines, the new ASEAN Chair, and utilise ASEAN mechanisms to promote peace, harmony, and lasting stability within the ASEAN family, thereby preserving and enhancing ASEAN’s standing.

At the international level, Cambodia’s permanent missions to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, as well as missions to relevant international organisations, have submitted requests for intervention and held discussions with key leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, the President and members of the UN Security Council, UNESCO, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, senior human rights officials, and the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing.
