Cambodia Refutes Thai Media’s False Report on Arms Seizure near Border
AKP Phnom Penh, January 06, 2026 -- The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior has categorically rejected a recent false reporting by Khaosod English claiming that "... Thai Marines Seize Large Cambodian Arms Cache Hidden in Casino."
“The images and location presented as evidence of the alleged seizure of Cambodian weapons are not within what is referred to as the ‘Thmar Da Casino compound,’” said the Spokesperson in a statement released this afternoon. “On the contrary, the location shown is the ‘Gate 56 of Border Patrol Police,’ under Command Colonel Police Battalion Border Protection 825 of the Commissariat of Pursat Provincial Police, which is located entirely within the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Cambodia.”
The Spokesperson underlined that this dissemination of false information clearly demonstrates malicious and dishonest intent that cannot be denied, and it directly contradicts Paragraph 8 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand, held on Dec. 27, 2025.
Paragraph 8 explicitly states that "Both sides agree to refrain from disseminating false information or fake news in order to de-escalate tensions, mitigate negative public sentiment, and foster an environment conducive to peaceful dialogue."
Furthermore, he continued, the seizure of weapons from a police station located within Cambodian sovereign territory constitutes an act of plunder, which further exposes the application of the law of the jungle by the Thai government and military in their encroachment upon Cambodian territory. The Thai side itself must bear responsibility under international law, from which it cannot evade accountability.
“Once again, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior completely rejects the reporting by Khaosod English and urges the Thai side to immediately cease all hostile actions and adhere to the substance of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand, with the aim of seeking a peaceful resolution based on mutual trust, sincerity, goodwill, justice, and respect for one another,” the statement concluded.
