Lawmakers Provide Aid to 500 Displaced Families in Preah Vihear Municipality

Lawmakers offered food, clothing and other provisions on Sunday to some 500 families displaced by the border conflict with Thailand.
The parliamentary delegation included National Assembly members H.E. Meas Sophea, Member of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and member for Preah Vihear, and Lok Chumteav Lork Kheng, President of the Cambodian Women Parliamentarians group, along with H.E. Yos Phanita, Chair of the Senate Commission on Economy, Finance, Banking and Audit.
Greetings from the Cambodian leadership were conveyed by Lok Chumteav Lork Kheng, who is also chair of the National Assembly Commission on Health, Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth Rehabilitation, Labuor, Vocational Training and Women’s Affairs.
Speaking to the families in Pal Hal commune in Preah Vihear provincial city, she expressed deep gratitude to Cambodian soldiers for protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.
“This represents a tremendous sacrifice and an invaluable debt to the entire Cambodian nation, which we must all respect and cherish, honouring them as heroes,” she said.
She also praised Provincial Governor H.E. Kim Rithy “who has diligently devoted physical and mental efforts to help restore the livelihoods of local residents and displaced compatriots.”
Each family received a mat, a blanket, a Krama (Cambodian scarf), a set of clothing, 2 bars of soap, 2 sanitary pads, 2 sets of toothpaste and toothbrushes, 1 kilogramme each of dried fish, sugar, salt, and MSG, 12 bottles of soy sauce, 6 bottles of fish sauce, 6 bottles of orange juice and 10 kilogrammes of rice as well as 50,000 Riel (about 4,000 Riel equal to US$1) in cash.
Children were offered additional gifts with each getting a toy, 2 books, chocolate snacks, 2 cakes, a bunch of bananas, crackers, 2 boxes of fresh milk, 2 sets of toothpaste and toothbrushes, 1 set of clothing and 2,000 Riel in cash.
The lawmakers also donated protective masks against toxic smoke and cash to three military units, with each receiving 1,000 masks and 2 million Riel.
