Temporary School Opens in Oddar Meanchey Displacement Camp
AKP Phnom Penh, December 31, 2025 --
A temporary school at a displacement camp in Oddar Meanchey province opened yesterday to allow displaced students to continue their studies amid the current situation, according to a news release issued by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport on Dec. 30.
The ministry emphasised that relevant teams will continue their efforts this week to complete the establishment of temporary schools in all three displacement camps in Oddar Meanchey province.
Meanwhile, thanks to the improved situation following the entry into force of an immediate ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand at noon on Dec. 27, schools in several areas have been authorised to resume operations.
According to the Provincial Departments of Education, Youth and Sport in Koh Kong and Battambang, schools in Koh Kong province, as well as those in the districts of Samlot, Kamrieng, Sampov Loun, Phnom Proeuk, and Banan in Battambang province, were able to reopen on Dec. 30.
It should be noted that more than 1,000 schools across seven provinces—Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Siem Reap, and Koh Kong—were forced to close due to indiscriminate attacks by Thai forces between Dec. 7 and 27, 2025.
These closures disrupted the education of more than 250,000 students and affected approximately 12,000 teachers.
