Defence Spokesperson Confirms Calm Situation at Cambodia-Thai Border
AKP Phnom Penh, December 29, 2025 --
As of 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 29, the frontline situation in Military Regions 4 and 5 along the Cambodia-Thailand border remains calm.
The situation was confirmed by H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, during a press briefing held this morning.
She underlined that Cambodian armed forces remain strong and fully vigilant in carrying out their duties to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We reiterate our unwavering position to resolve all issues in accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, and the ASEAN Charter,” the spokeswoman stressed.
Cambodia and Thailand agreed to a ceasefire that came into effect at 12:00 p.m. (local time) on Dec. 27, during the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held earlier the same day.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides adopted and signed a Joint Statement agreeing on an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians, the resumption of peaceful border demarcation and demining activities, respect for international law, and the return of detained Cambodian soldiers, in line with the U.S.- and ASEAN-facilitated Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration.
