AKP Phnom Penh, December 28, 2025 --
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has issued a statement welcoming the entry into force on Dec. 27 of a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, following the meeting of the General Border Committee, which marked the resumption of dialogue between the military authorities of the two countries.
“Peace must now be consolidated. France encourages both parties to take all necessary measures as quickly as possible to guarantee the protection of their populations, the return of displaced civilians, and the peaceful resolution of their differences in accordance with international law,” the statement, dated De. 27, emphasised.
The same source added that, as the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs had assured his Thai and Cambodian counterparts during discussions on Dec. 23, France remains committed to supporting both countries and the ASEAN chairmanship.
In addition to France, Australia, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union, among others, have also welcomed the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire agreement.
