ISC Enhances Quality Management Expertise in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar as Mekong-Lancang Project Wraps Up
AKP Phnom Penh, December 23, 2025 --
The project on “Training of Trainers and Lead Auditors for the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems” concluded on Tuesday, marking another milestone in strengthening regional quality management expertise in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework.
The project closing ceremony brought together around 150 participants from relevant ministries-institutions, business associations and enterprises, development partners, and key stakeholders implementing international quality standards.
“Standards play a crucial role in international trade,” H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, said. “ISO 9001:2015 on Quality Management Systems, in particular, has become a key driver of competitiveness, creating significant opportunities for manufacturing industries, export businesses, and product distributors to compete effectively and build trust with consumers and relevant authorities.”
The minister added that the ISO 9001:2015 standard places strong emphasis on responsibility and accountability across the entire organisation—from top management to every staff member involved in each production chain and process—helping ensure that finished products comply with applicable standards, technical regulations, and market requirements.
Implemented with rigorous international assessment procedures of the Chartered Quality Institute, the project produced 15 certified Master Trainers—including 10 from Cambodia, 2 from Laos, and 3 from Myanmar—and 10 certified Lead Auditors, of whom 7 are Cambodian.
H.E. Chan Sopha, Director General of the ISC, said the project has laid a strong foundation for sustained quality improvements across the region.
“By building a pool of internationally certified trainers and auditors, we are strengthening national and regional capacity to support enterprises in adopting quality management systems that meet international market requirements,” he said.
Implemented by the Institute of Standards of Cambodia under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework, the “Training of Trainers and Lead Auditors for the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems” project aimed to contribute to building stronger quality management systems and promoting sustainable economic development across the three Mekong-Lancang countries.
