French Garden Named in Honour of Late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk
AKP Phnom Penh, December 23, 2025 --
A garden in the town of Fère-en-Tardenois in Aisne, France, has been officially named the “Norodom Sihanouk Garden” in honour of His Majesty the late King-Father, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk.
According to a press release from the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in France issued on Dec. 22, the naming pays tribute to the profound historical ties between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the town of Fère-en-Tardenois. The town is the symbolic site of the historic first meeting in 1987 between the late King-Father and Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then Prime Minister of Cambodia.
“This historic dialogue marked the starting point of the peace process and national reconciliation, which eventually culminated in the 1991 Paris Peace Accords. These accords ushered in a new era of stability and reconstruction for the Cambodian people,” the press release underlined.
The official inauguration of the garden is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026, in Fère-en-Tardenois. The ceremony will be presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Samdech Reach Botrei Preah Anoch Norodom Arunrasmy, High Privy Councillor to His Majesty the King and Member of the Cambodian Senate.
