Cambodia, ICRC Discuss Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, December 18, 2025 —
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received here on Dec. 17 a courtesy call from Mr. Jürg Montani, Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who presented his credentials at the Ministry.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the call, both parties exchanged views on the cooperation of the ICRC in Cambodia, focusing on rehabilitation programmes for persons with disabilities, efforts to enhance detainee welfare, partnership with the Cambodian Red Cross, the promotion of international humanitarian law, and other humanitarian assistance during periods of tension along the Cambodian-Thai border.
Mr. Montani briefed H.E. Deputy Prime Minister on the ICRC’s recent visit to 18 Cambodian soldiers captured by Thai forces on July 29, 2025. Based on this visit, Mr. Montani confirmed that all 18 soldiers currently in Thai custody are safe and in good health.
He further stated that the ICRC had received messages from the detained soldiers for their families and would forward them through the Cambodian Red Cross.
