France Supports Malaysia’s Call for Immediate Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire
AKP Phnom Penh, December 14, 2025 -- France has expressed its deepest concern over the escalating clashes between Thailand and Cambodia and has voiced its support for Malaysia’s initiative calling for an immediate ceasefire.
According to a statement issued this evening by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and shared by the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, France welcomed the efforts of Malaysia, in its role as ASEAN Chair, to help resume peaceful dialogue between the two countries.
“France supports Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for an immediate ceasefire and strongly encourages both parties to end hostilities without delay and resume dialogue, in accordance with the provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Declaration, with a view to achieving a peaceful settlement of the dispute between the two countries,” the statement emphasised.
Since Dec. 7, the Thai military has renewed its attacks on Cambodian territory and expanded operations across multiple locations in Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat provinces. These operations have included the use of heavy weapons, F-16 fighter jets, and toxic gas, resulting in civilian casualties, damage to homes, temples, and health centers, the temporary closure of hundreds of schools, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians. Cambodia has no choice but to counterattack in self-defence to repeated violations of its territorial integrity after exercising more than 24 hours of maximum restraint.
