“Today marks the 70th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to the United Nations (Dec. 14, 1955 – Dec. 14, 2025). The United Nations is the world’s largest international organisation, established on Oct. 24, 1945, following the end of World War II (1939–1945),” he wrote in a message posted on his official social media platforms this morning.
He noted that the United Nations aims to maintain international peace and security, promote international cooperation under international law, support economic development, facilitate dispute resolution among member states, and prevent future global conflicts.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted Cambodia’s active contribution to UN peacekeeping and stabilisation operations, underlining that over the past decade, the country has deployed a significant number of blue helmet troops, both women and men, to international missions.
According to the former Prime Minister, Cambodian peacekeepers have served in Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, the Central African Republic, Syria, Cyprus, Mali, and other locations.
He added that Cambodian blue helmet forces specialise in engineering, Level-2 medical services, mine clearance, gendarmerie duties, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD).
Recently, he stressed, Cambodia has emerged as a leading country in promoting the participation of female peacekeepers in United Nations missions.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet also extended his congratulations today on the 70th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to the United Nations.
